Isn't it fascinating that some birds change their colours to breed or breeding changes their colours? The Purple Sunbird (Cinnyris asiaticus) is one such bird which changes colours in the breeding season. The olive and yellowish bird turns to a beautiful iridescent bluish and greenish colour with maroon. This male individual is filmed in a thicket inside a public park in Delhi. The summer months spell the end of breeding season for these birds in North India while it may vary in other geographical locations. The bird is filmed preening itself and the pectoral portions f the birds have become yellowish. This signify the male is a non-breeding made.
