The Spur-winged Lapwing (Vanellus spinosus) is a striking and vocal wader often seen along the edges of rivers, marshes, and seasonal water bodies in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Recognisable by its bold black, white, and brown plumage, this medium-sized plover stands out against the golden savanna grasslands and muddy banks. Its name comes from the sharp spur located at the bend of each wing, which it uses aggressively to defend its nest from predators and intruders.
