Pilgrims walking along the main stone-paved pathway to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, India, during the Char Dham Yatra season. Families, couples and groups make their way along the route wearing jackets, caps and warm clothing suited to the mountain conditions. Porters carry large cane baskets loaded with blankets, bedding and other supplies on their backs. Temporary shops, blue tarpaulin shelters, tents and small stalls line both sides of the pathway, providing goods and food for visitors. Snow-covered Himalayan slopes rise behind the settlement, showing the high-altitude setting of this major pilgrimage destination.
