A purple sunbird is a small bird and often mistaken for a hummingbird in India although it is not found in India. In the late spring the breeding takes place and the males develop the breeding plumage of purpling sheen which glows in the sun. The male sits on a flowering shrub and calls out to the female. Both sexes are filmed feeding on flower nectar and making breeding calls. Notice the sexual dimorphism in the colour of plumage of the female which is dull while the male is uniquely coloured.
