Red-wattled Lapwings are ground nesters and lay eggs on the ground in the spring. They usually lay a quartet of eggs and are camouflaged with the dry leaves and twigs on the ground. A unique behavior of the bird is unlike other birds which sit on their eggs to incubate and keep the eggs warm, the lapwing wets its underbelly plumage and sits on the eggs to keep them cool in the hot season. This dainty-legged bird is mostly found in wet marshes and grassland but they have also adapted to a more urban habitat with time.
