Rare footage of a macaque eating a bird, at the edge of the mangrove swamp forests of the Sunderbans in West Bengal, India. Having found a dead bird or killed a bird, the Rhesus macaque monkey proceeds to meticulously wash it in the muddy tidal creek and mangrove swamp and then eats the bird bit by bit, after breaking off a wing and a leg, one at a time. A certain scientist marvelled at the crow that used a tool - what does one make of this simian? On enquiring from a few naturalists who have visited the mangroves of Sunderbans we came to know that Rhesus Macaques there often raid bird nests for eggs and chicks/fledgelings as well.
