A hawk perched quietly within the dense canopy of Pampadum Shola National Park in the Western Ghats. Surrounded by lush evergreen vegetation, the raptor rests among the branches of a high-altitude Shola forest ecosystem, a unique montane habitat characteristic of southern India’s hill ranges. Pampadum Shola, located in Kerala’s Idukki district, is known for its cool misty climate, stunted evergreen forests, rolling grasslands, and exceptional biodiversity. Hawks and other birds of prey play an important ecological role in these forests by regulating populations of smaller birds, rodents, reptiles, and insects. The footage captures the calm presence of a forest raptor within one of India’s most ecologically sensitive rainforest habitats.
