A Red-wattled Lapwing (Vanellus indicus), a large and easily recognizable wader bird, spotted in New Delhi. This species is widespread across the Indian subcontinent and is known for its striking black, white, and brown plumage, bright red facial wattles, and long yellow legs. Often found near wetlands, open fields, and urban areas, the Red-wattled Lapwing is famous for its loud, repetitive alarm calls, often heard during the day and night. Highly alert and territorial, it plays an important role in the local ecosystem by feeding on insects and small invertebrates.
