This footage features Dodona durga, commonly known as the Common Punch, a small yet visually striking butterfly belonging to the family Riodinidae. Found across the Indomalayan realm, its range extends from Tibet and Chitral through Nepal to West and Central China. Despite its modest size, this species stands out due to its distinctive wing patterns and unique feeding behaviour. In the footage, the butterfly can be seen resting on the ground and stone surface while extending its long, flexible proboscis, often described as a trunk-like structure. This behaviour is known as puddling, where butterflies extract essential minerals and salts from damp soil, stones, or organic residues.
