We saw this Tortoiseshell while looking for Tragopan Pheasants at Khonoma! The Indian Tortoiseshell butterfly or Aglais cashmiriensis is found in Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and from Jammu and Kashmir to Sikkim. Commonest among Himalayan butterflies it is seen throughout the year in various habitats except in deep forest. It loves the sun and flies close to the ground. Seen from the terai up to 5,360m.
