Egret working really hard to be able to swallow this poor rat. Although a rat can potentially attack and eat smaller animals such as mice, birds and insects, a rat sits at the bottom of the food chain and near the outside of the food web. That means that a lot of other creatures like to eat them. Birds such as Egrets, hawks, owls and eagles will take a rat meal whenever they can get one. An egret is any of several herons, most of which are white or buff, and several of which develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season. Many egrets are members of the genera Egretta or Ardea which also contain other species named as herons rather than egrets.
