Demoiselle Cranes (Grus virgo) at the Chugga Ghar in Khichan village, near Phalodi in Rajasthan. The birds are first seen feeding together on the ground before walking around the feeding area. Soon after, large groups of cranes take off together, filling the sky as they fly over the surrounding landscape. Demoiselle Cranes are the smallest members of the crane family and migrate to Rajasthan every winter from Central Asia, Mongolia, and nearby regions. They gather at the community-managed Chugga Ghar, where local residents provide grains such as bajra (pearl millet) and jowar (sorghum) to support the visiting birds during the winter season.
