Two Red-wattled Lapwings (Vanellus indicus) have a breeding season rendezvous and roam gracefully through a grassy field scattered with dry leaves, searching for insects, seeds, and other small morsels hidden among the vegetation. Almost immediately after the act, the female seems to settle on a nesting spot in the open lawn grassland. Known for their striking red wattles, bold black-and-white markings, and ever-alert nature, these charismatic birds move with purpose, pausing frequently to inspect the ground before taking a few more careful steps. Their sharp eyes miss little, making them some of the most vigilant residents of India's open landscapes.
