A male Purple Sunbird (Cinnyris asiaticus) in breeding plumage is observed perched on a red silk cotton flower (Bombax ceiba) in India. The bird displays iridescent dark plumage that reflects shades of purple and blue under natural light. It feeds on nectar by inserting its curved bill into the flower. This interaction represents a common feeding behaviour for sunbirds in flowering trees. The silk cotton tree provides a seasonal nectar source in open and semi-urban habitats. Natural daylight highlights the contrast between the bird’s plumage and the red flower.
