Spotted Forktails forage at the edge of a tiny stream in the Himalaya

Digging up old leaves and mud in the stream, these Forktails hunt for insects, molluscs and grubs in the stream water. Normally found near small streams and rivulets, these beautiful birds get their name from the deep forks in their tails. Both sexes of this species of bird look alike and can be heard uttering a shrill 'kree' sound'. Spotted Forktails (Enicurus maculatus) are found in the Himalaya. True to its name, the Spotted Forktail is s smart black and white cheery bird with a ceaselessly wagging forked tail. It loves small mountain streams and darts up and down the stream in order to chase up on insect feed and other prey, including larvae.
