A pair of Spotted Forktails (Enicurus maculatus) is observed foraging along a rocky streamside in Motidhar, Mussoorie, nestled within the lower Himalayas of Uttarakhand. These striking black-and-white birds move actively across the forest floor near the water's edge, searching for food among fallen leaves and stones. One of the birds can be seen using its bill to flip and move leaf litter, carefully inspecting the ground beneath for hidden prey. This behavior is typical of Spotted Forktails, which forage along mountain streams and moist forest habitats in search of aquatic insects, insect larvae, worms, and other small invertebrates. The species is easily recognized by its glossy black plumage marked with bright white spots across the back, along with its exceptionally long, deeply forked
