The Indian Peafowl is observed in its natural setting, showcasing both male and female characteristics. The male, known as the peacock, displays its vibrant iridescent blue and green plumage in a courtship dance, spreading its elaborate “train”—which consists of specialized upper tail covert feathers decorated with eye-like patterns. In contrast, the female, or peahen, has more subdued coloring with a brown back, white underside, and a subtle bronze-green neck. She lacks the long ornamental train and instead has a shorter, practical tail suited for camouflage. Native to the Indian subcontinent, these birds are commonly found on the ground in open forests, grasslands, and agricultural areas.
