Dr Verghese Kurien on how Operation Flood was evolved and its importance: When the National Dairy Development Board was created by the Govt. of India, the brief given to the National Dairy Development Board was to replicate Anand throughout India. The scheme Operation Flood was evolved to convert the threat of European surpluses into an opportunity for us to generate the funds and replicate Anand throughout India. And so we evolved Operation Flood saying us as the National Dairy Development Board, an agency of Govt., we shall receive the commodities.
