A female Great Eggfly butterfly (Hypolimnas bolina), commonly known as the Common Eggfly or Blue Moon butterfly, observed in Mussoorie. Unlike the male, the female displays rich brown wings adorned with prominent white patches bordered by subtle yellowish markings, providing effective camouflage in forested environments. Seen resting calmly in its natural habitat, the butterfly reflects the healthy biodiversity of Mussoorie’s hill ecosystems. Hypolimnas bolina is a widespread species across India and is commonly found in gardens, forest edges, and hill regions, where it plays an important role in pollination and the local food web.
