Speckled Piculet in Latpanchar: An inquisitive hyper-active bird that forages along small trunks of trees for larvae, insects and similar hidden gems. This particular one has unearthed a hidden stash of larvae inside a thin stem, and its strong beak pulls out the grubs in quick succession. It was defined by Burton in 1836. The male and female birds look alike. They have olive-green backs, with two white stripes on the side of their heads. The male bird has orange and brown on the forecrown. They have a creamy-white coloring below, with black spots. There is a dark green band near the eyes.
