In the heat of a summer's day in New Delhi, this Merops orientalis or Green Bee Eater digs nest-hole in a sand bank in the ground, to breed almost at ground level This dainty little bird with a black band around its neck preys on honey bees and insects. With green and aquamarine feathers and the black line around its eyes it is quite a bird. Pointy beaks wide open in the summer as the birds allow the cooler air circulation in their bodies to dissipate heat. The beak is sharp and pointy and designed to pick insects.
