A Grizzled Giant Squirrel (Ratufa macroura), a rare arboreal rodent species native to parts of southern India and Sri Lanka. The squirrel is seen foraging within the dense canopy of a tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica), using its forepaws to hold and feed on tamarind pods. It is identifiable by its grizzled greyish-brown upper body, pale cream-colored underparts, light crown patch, and long bushy tail used for balance while moving through branches. Grizzled Giant Squirrels are highly adapted tree-dwelling mammals that spend most of their lives in forest canopies feeding on fruits, bark, leaves, flowers, and seeds. They are considered one of India’s largest squirrel species and are associated with riverine forests, dry deciduous woodland, and evergreen habitats in southern India. The footage
