Melicope elleryana is an evergreen tree with a spreading crown; it can grow from 20 - 35 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be free of branches for most of its height, up to 50cm in diameter, usually with small buttresses that can be up to 2 metres high. The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and also for its wood, which is sometimes traded.A commonly cultivated tree in gardens, valued especially because it is fast growing and produces masses of pink flowers which are attractive to birds. A sub-canopy to canopy tree, found in well developed rain forest on a variety of sites, often in the more open areas of secondary growth; at elevations from near sea level to 800 metres. The leaves are mashed in water, which is then used as a wash in the treatment of
