A stunning shot of a pair of Himalayan Snowcock flying off! Those are not Tibetan Snowcock, surely... These were filmed around the Hanuman Ganga valley's upper reaches near the Bandarpunch in Uttarakhand Himalaya, at the beginning of winter. The Snowcock is a rugged bird that lives at high altitudes, and has a lot of body fat to protect it from the harsh and inclement winter months through which it lives throughout the year. At the beginning of winter, the birds start collecting additional reserves of body fat within their bodies. When the winter snows fall thick, their existence is a challenging one as they must search for seeds, tubers and roots to consume through the thick snow cover to keep themselves nutritioned and hydrated. They are energetic and strong flyers but only when pressed
