A mountainous valley in the Panchachuli region of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, features a fast-flowing river winding between steep, green slopes. Dense pine forests cover the upper ridges, while grass, shrubs and scattered boulders extend across the surrounding hillsides. A small mountain settlement with blue, white and red-roofed houses sits on a relatively flat ridge above the valley. Further into the high-altitude landscape, extensive grey and white moraine debris covers the valley floor beneath snow- and ice-covered mountain ridges. Multiple streams of meltwater cascade down the dark rocky slopes, creating a striking contrast between the green alpine vegetation and the exposed glacial terrain.
