The Rufous-bellied Woodpecker (Dendrocopos hyperythrus) is found in Uttarakhand, particularly in its Himalayan foothill and montane forests. It is often spotted in areas like Mandal in Chamoli and Pangot in Nainital, and its presence is linked to its unique feeding behavior of creating small holes in trees to drink sap, which is why it is sometimes called a "sapsucker".
