Tota as it is locally called is a common species of bird here in Delhi. A female Rose-ringed Parakeet is seen camouflaged with the green leaves and fruit of a tree in our office complex, pecking at Pilkhan Ficus virens fruit. Enjoy the bird picking on the raw fruit and going from one branch to the other looking for better fruits. The parakeet seems oblivious to the camera and continues being a picky eater. Ficus virens is a plant of the genus Ficus found in India, southeast Asia, through Malaysia and into Northern Australia. Its common name is white fig; it is locally known as pilkhan and in the Kunwinjku language it is called manbornde. Like many figs, its fruits are edible.
