This footage beautifully captures the intimate nesting behaviour of the red-wattled lapwing (Vanellus indicus), a species known for its loud calls, sharp vigilance and exceptional parental care. The sequence shows the female settled low on her freshly laid eggs, camouflaged perfectly against the ground. At intervals she stands up and slowly walks around the open green area, never straying far from the nest. Even during these short walks, her head remains upright and alert, scanning every direction for threats—a typical lapwing trait meant to deter predators before they come too close. As she returns to the nest, she gently lowers herself back over the eggs. While incubating, a subtle vibration can be seen in her throat, a behaviour often linked with regulated breathing and thermal control
