A female blue-capped redstart (Phoenicurus coeruleocephala) perched on a conifer branch against a clear blue sky. Her brownish-grey plumage, pale eye ring and subtle wing markings are visible in the bright natural light. The bird’s rusty-orange tail hangs below the branch, providing a contrast with her muted body colours. Male blue-capped redstarts have a distinctive pale blue cap, while females have comparatively subdued plumage. The species breeds in the Himalayan region and moves to lower elevations during winter.
