Thousands of Ganesha devotees gather outside a brightly lit Ganesh pandal in Pune. Chatter, temple music, and commercial activities are taking place simultaneously and it looks like it will stay like this the whole night. Vendors selling toys and attractive items stands out from the crowd with their huge loads of toys, balloons. The Pandals or temporary platform is a raised area to keep the Ganesha idol for the public to carry out religious rituals. The idol is to be immersed in water on the last day of the festival. Ganesh Chaturthi is mostly celebrated in Maharashtra and western India as the arrival of Ganesh, the Hindu god of wisdom and prosperity. However, the festival also holds a cultural and historical significance, a symbol of resistance to the British Raj for the people in Mahara
