An Oriental Rat Snake (Ptyas mucosa) is seen roaming through dry grass and scattered weak wood that has fallen from nearby trees. Moving smoothly over the forest floor, it weaves between leaves, twigs, and broken branches in this semi-dry woodland habitat. The snake’s alert movements show it is likely searching for prey such as rodents, lizards, or frogs. Its long, slender body blends well with the earthy surroundings, making it an efficient predator in forested landscapes. Non-venomous and fast, Ptyas mucosa plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance by controlling small animal populations.
