An Indian desert jird (Meriones hurrianae) is seen actively foraging across the sandy landscape of Rajasthan. The Indian desert jird (Meriones hurrianae) is a diurnal, burrowing rodent found in arid regions of India (notably the Thar Desert), Pakistan, and Iran. Also known as the Indian desert gerbil, it has a grey-brown coat, long claws, and is highly adapted to arid conditions.
