Rupin Dang meets these two enterprising young Bhutanese women who drive up in a Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck each morning and set up a tea and coffee shop at the top of the Chele La pass which divides the Paro and Haa valley. A mini business school case study here, perhaps? The ultimate vertical integration of agriculture and trade... These Bhutanese women grow their own potatoes and chillies to make potato wafer crisps and sell them at 13, 200 foot high Chele la pass in Bhutan, having driven at 7 am in their own Bolero vehicle. Enterprise and hard work come together... Few people visit Chele La pass but just about enough of them do so, and buy just about enough tea, coffee and snacks from these women. Talk of food miles!
