A Blue-throated Barbet nests at wildfilmsindia bird sanctuary in western Himalaya, at Motidhar valley around Mussoorie. A Himalayan or Hill Barbet also calls clearly in the clip, so it must be sitting on an adjacent tree. The Blue-throated Barbet chips away at its nesthole-to-be, removing slivers of wood by pekcing into the rotting tree trunk, and expelling the wood in all directions around it, as it excavates a nest hole for the impending warm weather of the nesting season in spring and summer. The strong bill is used to dig into the decaying wood and as its head emerges, the expels the wood chips in both directions, as seen here in slow motion action.
