The Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalaya mountains in the north eastern part of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The Middle Land", that is the land between Tibet and India. Chandra Tal is situated in the Spiti part of the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh and the name of the lake originates from its crescent shape.
