The Black Francolin (Francolinus francolinus), commonly known as Kala Titar, is a distinctive ground-dwelling bird found across grasslands, scrublands, and agricultural fields of India. Males are striking with glossy black plumage, a bold white facial patch, and chestnut markings, while females are well camouflaged in brown and buff tones. This species is best known for its loud, sharp calls heard during early mornings and evenings, often before the bird is actually seen. Black Francolins feed on seeds, grains, shoots, insects, and small invertebrates, playing an important role in the rural ecosystem.
