The Indian air force deploys its helicopters to start the relief work in the flood-stricken region of Kerala. Rescue workers and members of India’s armed forces have been deployed across the state with fleets of ships and aircraft brought in to save the thousands of people still stranded, many sheltering on their roofs signalling to helicopters for help. Residents of the state used social media to post desperate appeals for help, sometimes including their GPS coordinates to help guide rescuers. People are airlifted by members of the Indian Navy during a rescue operation in a flooded area in Kerala. Kerala, popular among international tourists for its tropical hills and beaches, has been battered by record monsoon rainfall in 2018. This footage is part of the broadcast stock footage archive
