A lively scene from New Delhi shows a group of ducks swimming and splashing in a calm pond. These birds are identified as Mallard, one of the most widespread duck species in the world and the ancestor of many domestic ducks. The males are easily recognizable by their glossy green heads, bright yellow bills, and distinct white neck ring, while the females display mottled brown plumage that provides excellent camouflage. The ducks are actively dabbling—tipping forward in shallow water to feed on aquatic plants, insects, and small organisms. Such scenes are common in urban and semi-natural wetlands across Delhi, where ponds and water bodies support birdlife. The splashing and group movement reflect typical social and feeding behavior of these adaptable waterfowl.
