A male Purple Sunbird (Cinnyris asiaticus / Nectarania asiatica ) in breeding plumage feeds on nectar from bright red tubular flowers. The bird moves among the flowers while inserting its slender bill to access nectar. Its dark purple-blue breeding plumage is visible against the red blossoms.
