Gangasagar Mela held on Sagar Island during the Makar Sankranti festival in January 2024. Enormous crowds of Hindu pilgrims gathering at the Gangasagar Mela, one of the world’s largest religious congregations after the Kumbh Mela. Devotees arrive in huge numbers to take part in sacred rituals and holy dips at the confluence where the Ganges River meets the Bay of Bengal, a site believed to hold immense spiritual significance. Large open areas filled with pilgrims, temporary barricades, camps, and crowd-control infrastructure reflect the scale of the annual gathering. Extensive arrangements including temporary roads, pontoon bridges, lighting systems, and security management are established each year to handle the movement and safety of millions of visitors travelling to the island during t
