Gangasagar Mela at Sagar Island, where devotees gather at the sacred confluence of the Ganges River and the Bay of Bengal during Makar Sankranti. A large groups of Hindu pilgrims walking across sandy mela grounds wrapped in shawls, blankets, and winter clothing during the cold night and early morning hours. Many devotees carry heavy bundles and personal belongings on their heads while moving through the temporary pilgrimage settlement under bright floodlights and hazy winter skies. Additional scenes show hundreds of pilgrims gathered along the shoreline taking the ritual holy dip in the waters where the Ganga meets the Bay of Bengal.
