A Spotted Forktail (Enicurus maculatus) is actively foraging along a rocky stream bed. The striking black-and-white bird moves nimbly between stones and pebbles, carefully inspecting the ground for insects and other small prey. Using its bill, the forktail flips and shifts small rocks to uncover hidden food beneath them. Its long, distinctive forked tail bobs constantly as it explores the streamside habitat. Surrounded by flowing water, wet stones, and natural vegetation, the bird demonstrates the specialised feeding behaviour that makes it well adapted to fast-flowing forest streams in the Himalayan region.
