The Shikra (Accipiter badius), a small but agile bird of prey widely distributed across Asia and Africa. The Shikra belongs to the accipiter family, which includes hawks known for their speed, sharp vision, and hunting skills. The Shikra is easily recognized by its sharp yellow eyes, grey upperparts, and fine reddish barring on the chest. It is commonly seen perched quietly on tree branches or urban structures, scanning the surroundings for prey. Its diet mainly includes small birds, lizards, insects, and rodents. Despite being a raptor, the Shikra has adapted well to human environments and can often be found in city parks, gardens, and wooded areas across India.
