A Shikra (Accipiter badius), a small but agile bird of prey, is observed perched alertly in New Delhi, India. Also known as the Little Banded Goshawk, the Shikra is a common raptor found across the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. Despite living close to human settlements, it remains a skilled and efficient hunter. The Shikra is easily recognized by its sharp hooked beak, piercing red eyes, grey upperparts, and finely barred reddish-brown underparts. Its long tail and short rounded wings allow it to maneuver quickly through trees and urban spaces while chasing prey. In cities like New Delhi, Shikras are often seen in parks, gardens, wooded avenues, and residential areas, where they hunt small animals.
