Roads and trees submerged in water in Assam after heavy rains lashed the Brahmaputra river valley during the monsoon. Residents are out walking in knee-deep water as water fills up their mud houses. Motorists maneuver through the flooded streets while some watch from the safety of their homes in the higher elevated areas. Floods are prone in Assam in monsoons because of the heavy rains and the degradation of ecology in the Brahmaputra Basin.
