Just how old are these rock-cut caves in central India? Near the village of Kalyan in Maharashtra's Thane district are the Lonad Caves which is unique in the fact that it is built under a dome of a large rock. Filmed in the initial days of monsoon, cloudy skies, wet vegetation and a mysterious cave linked to spiritual pioneers from centuries ago. The entrance carved out of rocks, some broken and in a dilapidated state. The inscriptions and carvings add to the mystery and origin of the place. Inside the cave are sanctums which might have been dwellings of either gods or men or both. There are deities inside the inner sanctums which are decorated with lit lamps. The surroundings of the caves are fresh and lush forest after the short spell of rain. This footage is part of the broadcast stock
