This footage captures a few Coppersmith Barbets (Psilopogon haemacephalus) perched on the top branches of a tree in the foothills of the Himalayas. The birds are seen resting and remaining alert, their bright red forehead, yellow eye-ring, and green body standing out vividly against the surrounding foliage and open sky. Perching high in the canopy allows barbets to stay vigilant while maintaining visual contact with their surroundings. The Coppersmith Barbet is a resident bird species across much of the Indian subcontinent, commonly heard before it is seen due to its distinctive, metallic “tuk-tuk” call that resembles a coppersmith striking metal.
