Stork-Billed Kingfisher (Pelargopsis capensis) (formerly Halcyon capensis) is a widespread resident of the Indian Subcontinent. It is the second largest kingfisher found in the Indian Subcontinent, the largest being the Crested Kingfisher which is a higher altitude bird. It is a large bird with huge coral-red bill, brownish cap, pale orange-buff collar and underparts, and blue-green upperparts. In flight, shows turquoise rump and lower back. Juveniles have dusky barring on upperparts, especially on breast. Its other race H.c. intermedia of the Nicobars lacks brown cap, has entirely orange-buff head with brown flecks on crown, and much deeper blue upperparts.
