Phalanta phalantha is the Common Leopard butterfly that one can see across India, in the plains and in the middle Himalaya up to an altitude of 10, 000 feet. A restless butterfly that is also a swift flyer, it is territorial and pugnacious and is found at the edges of forest, in the plains and in gardens, too! It is fond of flowers and comes to damp muddy patches and is on the wing right through the year but is more abundant during the pre-monsoon and monsoon period.
