A gram of saffron costs anywhere between Rs 200 - 300 in India, consisting of a few strands of saffron. After harvest, the saffron stamens are separated from the flowers at Kashmiri homes. The stamens are then dried and then either packed or stored for being sold. The saffron harvest season begins towards the end of October and lasts for a fortnight. In recent years, Kashmiri saffron has started facing competition from Spanish saffron which costs cheaper.
